In August, 2007 we decided to switch our focus from adopting a baby to adopting an older girl. Our
decision to do this was largely based on the adoption story of a 13 year old girl named Yan. We
became aware of her story by following a link from Rumor
Queen to her parents' website. There
we watched every step of her adoption from Letter of Intent to homecoming. We were
absolutely amazed by Yan and soon realized that adopting an older girl would be a very special
experience and a great fit for us in the long run. As a result, we changed our preferred
age range from 6 - 18 months to 5 - 13 years old. We also shifted
our focus from the non-special needs (NSN) program to the special needs (SN) or Waiting Children
program because that's the route by which the CCAA places older children. We're very,
very excited to have the opportunity to welcome an older girl into our home as our daughter!
A Final Note
Yan is currently doing very well. Her American name is Sarah, the name she selected from a number of options suggested by her parents. Her entire adoption story can be found at www.windingvines.blogsopt.com.
